Minecraft Gets its Own Official Monthly Swag Box

Monthly subscription boxes are an interesting concept: subscribers pay a fee to receive items such as t-shirts, toys, merchandise such as makeup or food items that they don't have a choice over. Companies like Loot Crate, Fancy, Graze and Dollar Shave Club all utilise the model but there's a new player to the market: Mojang. It's true, Minecraft now has its own swag box.



For $30 a month, Mojang says it will provide subscribers with a unique "Mine Chest" full of "hand-picked, official Minecraft goodies." While the exact contents aren't available, Mojang says customers can expect a t-shirt crafting recipes, a crafting kit, and other collectibles throughout the month.



The Mine Chest was first unveiled in July 2015 at MineCon. Mojang made 5,000 beta keys available to attendees to secure the first boxes, but now it's opening to all. Although it's the perfect gift for any Minecraft player, it does come with a few caveats.



Mojang first requires subscribers to select a monthly plan. This is billed in advance, and shipments don't begin until the month of May. Mojang claims that paying upfront allows it to better service customers by purchasing premium products in larger quantities to lower costs. Mojang blames high shipping costs for its exclusivity but claims it is "working extremely hard" to bring them down and to expand their availability.
